UL puts DotyBelt through Tensile Test

UL, the testing corporation, recently ran tensile tests on the Doty Belt. UL is a global independent safety science company offering expertise in certification, validation, testing, inspections, auditing, education and advisory services.

UL ran  tensile tests on the Doty Belt to 1700 lbs. According to Wicapedia, Tensile testing, also known as tension testing, is a fundamental materials science test in which a sample is subjected to a controlled tension until failure.  We felt this was an important test to run on the Doty Belt.

We wanted to see when the handles would break and when the stitching would start to tear. At 1700 lbs. of pulling force the handles and the stitching began to pull apart.  That was just one handle. The steel “D” rings showed no signs of breaking. The 1¾ webbing rated at 6,000 lbs. began to slip at 400 lbs.
